National Public Lands Day - Seed Collection at Hegewisch Marsh

Join us and help with vital wetland restoration by collecting seeds at Hegewisch Marsh which is in its 5th year of restoration work. Volunteers will collect native seeds from prairie plants and learn about restoration at the site. Instruction on plant ID and seed collection will be provided. Materials will be provided. Please wear long sleeve shirts, jeans or old pants, work shoes, and bring a refillable water bottle. Call Jennifer Maxwell at (312) 742-0153 to RSVP.

Field Trip to Fair Oaks!



Fair Oaks Dairy 

When?  Thursday, September 29th, 2011
Time?  10:00am
Cost? $4.00 per person
**You will also be able to pre-order ahead of time for an ice cream cone at $1.34 per person, without a pre-order the cones are $1.95 plus tax
The $4.00 admission covers entrance to FairOaks which will include a 
museum visit, barn/birthing tour and a bus tour. We will also be given 
lunch space for thirty minutes and half-pints of milk, white 2 % or 
chocolate will be included in our admission price.  Plan on a minimum of three hours including lunch time for this trip.  You are free to enjoy 
the rest of your day at Fair Oaks as well, they close at 5:00pm.  
 
**Please note "Mooville" will not be open.
***You will be required to register ahead of time through me and pre-pay, there will not be admission at the gate with this group rate but you can pay that day at the regular rate of $10.00 per adult and $8.00 per child.  If you are interested please email me off-line and I will send you a confirmation, please note that you are not confirmed until I have received payment and you have received a confirmation from Carol Khoury.

Musical Theatre--The Wizard of Oz, starring homeschoolers Alexis (Dorothy) and Lara Lubienski (Lullaby League Dancer and Munchkin) and Colleen as Aunty Em! Carl Sandburg High School 13300 S. LaGrange Rd. Orland Park, IL Friday, April 29, Sat. April 30 @ 7p.m. and Sunday Matinee @ 2p.m. You can buy tickets at the door, but the performances are usually sold out...tickets are also $2 more at the door. Pre-purchase- 3-13 yrs, are $12.00, seniors and 14-18 yrs. are $14.00 and adult $16.00. They will not hold tickets without payment...so if you're interested, please pay Colleen, and she can pre- purchase them for you. Excellent seats are still available, so please let Colleen know ASAP, if you'd like to attend.

St. Patty's Day Field Trip


Join us for a trip Down Town to celebrate St. Patrick's Day on March 17th-St. Patrick's Day!
We'll meet at the Hegewisch South
Shore Station and take the train together or you can just meet up with us at the Cultural Center, then we'll head to the Picasso at Noon for a free performance (sure to be Irish). Then lunch in the
Cultural Center (pack a brown bag) where there will hopefully be more free
entertainment.

Join us for a field trip to Balzekas Museum of Lithuanian Culture

on Wednesday, March 23 at 10:00 for a museum tour and egg painting class.

The fee is $5 each.
The instructor for the class is a trained painter. Each participant needs to bring a hard boiled or blown egg dyed DARK. There is a Lithuanian and Polish bakery nearby (Racine Bakery) that we might go to afterwards as well.

January Field Trip!


Old Town School of Folk Music (Gary and Laura Maurer Concert Hall) for Thursday, January 20, 2011. 10:30 a.m. performance of India Rhythms: Rupayan Desert Musicians of Rajasthan. The cost is $5 per person. Global Spotlight: India "This is a special opportunity to experience a spectacular show with Rupayan, a group of touring tribal folk musicians from Rajasthan, India. They capture the romanticism and heroism of the north Indian Thar Desert in a visceral hypnotic performance of poetry, dance and music. The music of Rajasthan is driven by pulsating rhythms created by an array of percussion instruments and is accompanied by the double flute and Jewish harp."
